Apple has unveiled an updated Studio Display lineup, including the all-new Studio Display XDR. The base model now features an enhanced 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage and Desk View functionality, a studio-quality three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio support. Thunderbolt 5 connectivity has also been added, expanding connection options and enabling multi-display configurations.
The standout addition is the Studio Display XDR, which boasts a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR panel with mini-LED backlighting featuring over 2,000 local dimming zones. This monitor delivers up to 1,000 nits of brightness in SDR and up to 2,000 nits in HDR, with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate supporting Adaptive Sync. Designed for professionals working with HDR video, 3D graphics, and color grading, it also supports P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces.
The Studio Display XDR comes with the same upgraded camera, microphones, and audio system. Thanks to Thunderbolt 5, it can function as a hub capable of charging laptops with up to 140W of power. New features include DICOM presets for medical imaging, though using them for diagnostic purposes requires additional calibration and regulatory approval.
Both models are built with recycled materials and are available with either standard or nano-texture glass. The Studio Display starts at $1,599, while the Studio Display XDR replaces the Pro Display XDR and starts at $3,299. Pre-orders open on March 4, with sales beginning on March 11.
