Information has surfaced online about the new Leica SL3-P camera, described as a more affordable model in the SL lineup. According to LeicaRumors, the newcomer is essentially a version of the Panasonic S1 RII housed in a Leica body. The camera is expected to go on sale in May for around 6,000 euros.
Reports indicate the SL3-P will retain the key specifications of the original Panasonic model, including a 44.3-megapixel full-frame sensor. However, official images or body schematics have not yet been published. Based on Leica's previous practices, the design may feature more rounded forms, signature leather-like finishing, and the brand's characteristic logo.
The Panasonic S1 RII was unveiled in February 2025. It is equipped with a 44.3-MP BSI CMOS sensor, supports 8K video recording with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, and weighs approximately 795 grams. The model also incorporates AI-based technologies for eye and face tracking, along with fast continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second with autofocus.
Furthermore, the S1 RII implements a pre-shooting mode that captures frames even before the shutter button is fully pressed. If the SL3-P indeed inherits these capabilities, it should deliver high autofocus speed and advanced features for capturing dynamic scenes. For now, Leica has not officially confirmed the model's existence, and all information is based on leaks.
