ASUS ROG Astral Real Gold Edition GPU: An expensive asset story

The exclusive ASUS ROG Astral Real Gold Edition graphics card, originally created as a showpiece for Bilibili World 2025, has become an extremely expensive asset. It turns out the device was initially made for a private collector who provided about 5 kilograms of gold and purchased the finished card. At the time of its presentation, the total weight of the product was approximately 7.2 kg.

Unlike the previous Astral Dhahab Edition with its symbolic 6.5-gram coating of 999-purity gold, this new modification features substantial gold elements. The rising price of the precious metal has sharply increased the value of this unusual GPU. In August 2025, gold traded at an average of $3,363 per ounce, but by March 5, 2026, the price had reached $5,086. For 5 kg of gold, this translates to a cost increase from roughly $540,613 to $817,648—a jump of about $277,000 or over 51% in just seven months.

Interestingly, the GeForce RTX 5090 itself has also become more expensive. NVIDIA announced a recommended price of $1,999, but the model now sells for nearly double that on the market. Thus, the story of the golden ROG Astral reflects a broader trend: both the metal and flagship GPUs have seen significant price hikes.

What began as a flashy marketing exhibit has ultimately turned into an investment tale. Against this backdrop of rising gold and high-end graphics card prices, the question of whether rare GPUs can be viewed as assets no longer seems quite so ironic.
