GTA VI source code leak fears rise from hacker comments

Hacker Arion Kurtaj, previously involved in the major breach at Rockstar Games, is back in the spotlight following reports of a possible leak of the Grand Theft Auto VI source code. Despite being incarcerated, sources indicate he gained access to a smartphone and discussed the fate of the stolen materials.

Kurtaj claims the project's source code is definitely out there somewhere and expresses surprise that it hasn't surfaced publicly yet. These remarks have raised concerns among players, as a large-scale leak could create significant problems for the developers and potentially impact the game's release schedule.

The hacker gained notoriety after attacking Rockstar's servers in 2022, when he accessed internal materials and published dozens of videos showing early development footage. That incident gave players their first look at gameplay elements and locations, including Vice City and one of the main characters, Lucia.

Following an investigation, a British court ordered Kurtaj, who has autism, into a secure hospital for treatment. Later reports suggested he was transferred to a standard prison. Recently, new discussions surfaced online from insider videotechuk, focusing on the potential fate of the stolen code.

It remains unclear whether the source code is actually in the hands of third parties or if there's a genuine risk of its publication. Some analysts suggest publisher Take-Two Interactive has already strengthened security measures since the 2022 incident.

Even if some data does eventually leak online, it might not cause major issues for the project. The game has likely evolved significantly over the years, meaning older builds may not reflect the current state of development. However, developers are worried about potential vulnerabilities that could be exploited in future online services.
