Vivo continues to gradually reveal specifications for its upcoming flagship, the vivo X300 Ultra. New details about the device's camera system have been shared by the brand's product manager, Han Boxiao, on the social network Weibo. This time, he discussed the smartphone's ultra-wide-angle camera and hinted at an additional unusual sensor in the camera module.
According to him, the device will feature a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera based on the Sony LYT-818 sensor. The module will have a focal length of around 14mm, making it suitable for landscape and wide-scene photography. The sensor size is approximately 1/1.28 inches, which is one of the largest sensors used in smartphone ultra-wide-angle cameras.
The enlarged sensor is expected to benefit not only photos but also video recording. The company notes that wide-angle cameras are often used in video to achieve more stable footage. In the new device, stabilization has been improved from CIPA 5.0 to 6.0 compared to the previous generation, according to the manufacturer. The larger sensor should also perform better in low-light conditions.
In one of the teasers, a hidden element in the camera block, covered by an emoji, is noticeable. Although exact specifications aren't disclosed, the company representative hinted at using a new powerful sensor and an enhanced color processing system. Rumors suggest it might be an additional multispectral module of around 5 megapixels.
It was previously revealed that the main camera will be the Sony LYT-901 sensor. It will be paired with a 200-megapixel module with a sensor size of about 1/1.12 inches and a focal length of 35mm, which should provide a more natural perspective in shots.
Additionally, a new-generation periscope telephoto lens, developed in collaboration with ZEISS, is anticipated. It will be based on the Samsung ISOCELL HP0 sensor with 200-megapixel resolution and feature optical stabilization. According to the manufacturer, this will deliver image stability comparable to an external stabilizer when shooting at high zoom levels. A 50-megapixel front camera with autofocus is also expected.
For mobile photography enthusiasts, the company is preparing an additional accessory kit, including a teleconverter with a 400mm focal length offering 17x optical zoom. A more compact version of such an accessory for everyday use is also anticipated. The vivo X300 Ultra is set to be unveiled in China in March. A global launch may follow in the second quarter of this year, based on preliminary information.
