A hidden display setting has been discovered online for the budget MacBook Neo laptop that can significantly improve image quality. Although positioned as Apple's most affordable laptop starting at $599, the system includes the ability to enable the Display P3 color profile—the same color space standard used in more expensive MacBook models.
Tech blogger ZONEofTECH noticed this hidden feature. In the MacBook Neo's display settings menu, users can manually select the "Colour Profile" option and activate Display P3 mode. This makes the screen display images in the wider DCI-P3 color gamut, resulting in photos and videos that appear more vibrant and contrast-rich. Apple hasn't officially mentioned this capability in the device's specifications.
Even after enabling the mode, however, the MacBook Neo doesn't match the level of pricier models. The laptop's screen doesn't fully cover the P3 color space, but switching to the expanded palette still makes images noticeably more pleasing. For average users, the difference might be subtle, but those sensitive to color reproduction will notice the improvement.
Experts suggest Apple might have downplayed this feature to avoid creating competition with more expensive models like the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. The MacBook Neo's primary audience remains users who need an affordable laptop for everyday tasks rather than professional color work.
