The first test build of the One UI 9 interface has been spotted on Samsung's servers for the flagship Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. This new software version will be based on Android 17 and is expected to bring a range of system improvements.
Samsung previously launched the Galaxy S26 lineup with the One UI 8.5 interface pre-installed. Those devices were the brand's first smartphones to receive the stable version of this interface.
Now, information has emerged about the start of development for the next major update. The first build for the global version of the Galaxy S26 Ultra (model SM-S948B) carries a firmware number ending in BZC5. This indicates an early testing phase for the future update.
Meanwhile, Google continues to develop Android 17. The company recently released the second beta version of the system, which includes improved app window handling, lock screen widget support, and more flexible interface adaptation for different screen sizes.
Furthermore, the new Android version will gain additional security features, including protection against malicious SMS confirmations and an enhanced protection mode. The system will also feature a revamped notification structure and quick settings panel.
The stable version of Android 17 is expected to launch in mid-2026. According to preliminary information, its release could coincide with the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable smartphones. Before that, Samsung may open a One UI 9 beta program for the Galaxy S26 series.
