Apple has unveiled the next generation of its over-ear headphones: the AirPods Max 2. The updated model features the H2 chip, an improved active noise cancellation system, higher sound quality, and several intelligent features. Pre-orders for the device will open on March 25, with availability beginning early next month. The headphones will come in five colors: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.
One of the key upgrades is a significantly enhanced active noise cancellation system. Thanks to the new H2 processor and updated computational audio algorithms, ANC effectiveness has increased by roughly 50% compared to the previous generation. This allows for even better suppression of external noise—such as airplane engines or city traffic—letting users fully focus on music or conversation.
The AirPods Max 2 also received an updated amplifier with a high dynamic range, resulting in cleaner, more detailed sound. The headphones support 24-bit audio at 48 kHz when connected via USB-C, enabling lossless playback. Furthermore, spatial audio performance has been improved, with more precise instrument positioning and more natural-sounding bass and midrange frequencies.
The new model includes several intelligent features, such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and Voice Isolation. It also introduces a Live Translation function for real-time conversation translation. Additionally, the headphones can be used as a remote control for an iPhone camera, and the built-in microphones now support studio-quality audio recording, which could be useful for podcasters and content creators.
