Google Play Games for PC major expansion announced at GDC 2025

Google has announced a major expansion of Google Play Games for PC during GDC 2025. The platform continues to evolve rapidly, offering more games and enhanced support for both mobile and native Windows projects. Notable new additions to the service's catalog include "Game of Thrones: Royal Road," "Sonic Rumble," and "One: Valhalla Rising." Google is also changing its approach: Android games will now automatically become available on PC unless developers manually disable this option.

The company is placing greater emphasis on full-fledged PC games rather than just mobile titles. The platform is gradually transforming from an Android emulator into a distinct gaming ecosystem, giving developers additional opportunities to reach Windows users.

Technical improvements are receiving special attention. Hardware support is expanding to include devices with AMD processors, while new features like multi-account functionality and enhanced integration with OEM partner PCs are being added. The catalog now boasts over 200,000 games.

Cross-platform functionality is emerging as a key development focus. Users will be able to synchronize progress, save data, and account access between Android and Windows. Additionally, some games will adopt a "buy once, play anywhere" model, including titles like the Reigns series and Dungeon Clawler. If Google successfully implements these plans, Play Games on PC could become a genuine alternative to other gaming platforms.
