PS6 and Xbox Next launch schedule: delays or on time?

Early 2026 saw reports suggesting potential delays for the next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Analysts and media outlets expressed concerns that the PS6 and Xbox Next might not launch in 2027 as planned, but later, due to issues with memory and storage production.

The first warning came from MST International: analyst David Gibson suggested the PS6 could be postponed. In February, Bloomberg confirmed that Sony was considering pushing the launch to 2028 or even 2029. At the same time, while there were no rumors about Xbox Next delays, some gamers grew concerned seeing the distribution timeline for Alpha developer kits set for 2027.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in a recent interview with The Game Business, stated that component supply issues would not affect console launch schedules. His brief but confident statement reassures fans that the PS6 and Xbox Next will likely hit the market on schedule.

As head of one of the largest U.S. gaming companies, Zelnick likely has reliable information about Sony and Microsoft's plans. His comments suggest that fears of a delayed launch may be overstated.
