Android Canary 2603 build reveals upcoming features and updates

Google is continuing to refine its approach to Android testing with the release of a new Canary 2603 build. This version offers a glimpse into the system's future interface, as Canary builds are now becoming the primary platform for testing new features, bypassing the traditional developer and public beta stages.

One of the most noticeable changes is the redesigned quick settings menu. The Wi-Fi and mobile network toggles, previously combined into a single block, are now separated to simplify connection management. The system is also testing a new app-locking feature that supports protection via password, PIN, pattern, or fingerprint, with notifications and widgets from these apps being hidden.

Other additions include the return of app bubbles for multitasking, allowing programs to run in floating windows, along with updated interface visual effects featuring additional blur. However, Google has removed quick actions from long-pressing app icons, which could alter familiar usage patterns.

Screen recording has also been updated: after finishing a recording, a separate window now opens with quick actions for viewing, editing, deleting, or sharing the file. Currently, all these features are only available in the unstable Canary build for Pixel 6 and newer devices, but they provide insight into what Android will look like in the near future.
