Lenovo Legion Gamepad G9 turns tablet into portable gaming console

Lenovo has taken a unique approach to the portable gaming market with its Legion Gamepad G9 controller, which transforms a tablet into a full-fledged gaming console. Instead of creating a standalone device, the company is betting on a modular approach, allowing users to repurpose their existing tablets.

The controller features a split design that attaches to the sides of the Legion Tab, effectively turning it into a portable console with physical buttons, joysticks, and triggers. This format addresses one of the main issues in mobile gaming: the inconvenience of touch controls in fast-paced games.

The key advantage here is flexibility. Users can upgrade the tablet itself as needed without having to replace the entire system, unlike traditional portable consoles. However, there are limitations: the controller is only compatible with specific Legion Tab models, primarily the Y700 series.

For now, the accessory is only available in China for about $70, with no word on a global release. Still, this approach highlights how manufacturers are exploring alternatives to traditional portable consoles by combining a tablet and a gaming platform in one device.
