Portable smart camera market sees 83% growth in 2025 shipments

The global market for portable smart cameras is experiencing rapid growth. According to a recent IDC report, worldwide shipments of these devices reached 16.65 million units in 2025, marking an 83% increase from the previous year. The market's monetary volume exceeded 46.1 billion yuan, corresponding to 86% growth. Analysts expect the market to surpass 40 million devices by 2030, with an average annual growth rate of around 20%.

This category includes action cameras, panoramic cameras, and gimbal-equipped devices that feature computational capabilities, stabilization, and resolution of at least 2K. Action cameras hold the largest share, with shipments exceeding 8 million units—a 61% year-over-year increase. Meanwhile, the gimbal camera segment showed the most explosive growth, over 100%, where DJI maintains clear dominance.

In panoramic cameras, shipments surpassed 2.5 million devices, growing by more than 50%. Insta360 remains the leader in this segment, having developed this direction for many years. DJI is also actively expanding its presence thanks to the new Osmo 360 model, launched in the second half of the year.

For 2025, DJI emerged as the market leader with 10.4 million device shipments and a 62.4% share, showing 161.2% growth. Insta360 took second place with 3.4 million devices and a 20.4% share, growing by 87.2%. GoPro held onto third position with 1.8 million shipments and a 10.8% share, though its sales declined by 25.9% amid intensifying competition.
