Apple is preparing to release iOS 26.4, an update that won't bring the long-awaited Siri improvements but will focus on everyday conveniences, security, and new AI-powered features. The release candidate is already available, with the full launch expected in the coming days.
One of the most notable additions is the Playlist Playground generator in Apple Music. Users can create music playlists based on text descriptions—ranging from mood and activity to abstract ideas. There's also a new Ambient Music widget for quickly launching background sounds with ready-made collections for sleep, relaxation, or focus.
The update adds eight new emoji, including a trombone, an orca, a treasure chest, and a ballerina. A new Reduce Bright Effects setting reduces bright interface flashes, and animations have been improved. Apple fixed a keyboard issue that caused typos during fast typing and expanded family payment options—now each Family Sharing member can use their own card.
Significant changes also affect functionality. CarPlay will gain support for third-party chatbots, including solutions from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. The Podcasts app now supports video episodes with the ability to switch between audio and video and download for offline viewing. The Health app added tracking for average bedtime over the past two weeks, and device theft protection is now enabled by default, requiring biometrics to access critical functions.
Additionally, iOS 26.4 brings offline music recognition, nearby concert recommendations, full-screen album covers in Apple Music, and expanded subtitle settings. Overall, the update makes the iPhone more personalized and secure, even without major breakthrough features.
