Amazon is expanding its Kindle Scribe lineup and has introduced two new models: an updated Kindle Scribe and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.
The classic Kindle Scribe is now even thinner—just 5.4 mm and 400 g. It features an 11-inch E Ink display covered with textured glass that mimics paper. Inside is an updated quad-core processor and an improved Oxide technology stack for crisp, fast rendering of text and notes.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft brings a color screen with soft tones, designed to be easier on the eyes than LCD panels. Amazon says the device will still last for several weeks on a single charge despite the new capabilities.
Both versions come with revamped software: a refreshed home screen with Quick Notes, integration with Google Drive and OneDrive, and AI-powered search. In 2026, a new feature will let users send notes and documents to Alexa+ for analysis and discussion. Color markers and highlights are available, and notes can be exported to OneNote.
Kindle Scribe is priced from $430 (for the version without a front light) to $500, while the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will cost $630. In the U.S., the devices are slated to arrive at the end of the year, with Europe to follow at the start of the next.
All in all, this kind of device nudges dedicated e-readers closer to traditional tablets in terms of features. The trade-off remains familiar: performance in this category often trails behind. Even so, e‑ink screens have long been the main reason these devices stay popular.
