AYANEO Next 2 portable gaming PC pre-orders suspended over price surge

The portable gaming PC market has hit an unexpected snag: one of the most ambitious projects, the AYANEO Next 2, has proven too expensive to manufacture. The company has officially suspended pre-orders for the device, citing a rapid increase in memory and storage prices driven by the AI boom.

AYANEO initially planned to launch the device starting at $1,999 for a base configuration with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. However, after reviewing supplier contracts, it became clear that component costs had multiplied within just a few weeks. The result is that the production cost nearly doubled the announced price, making the release economically unviable.

The company emphasizes this is a temporary measure. If memory prices stabilize, sales could resume. Meanwhile, existing orders will be fulfilled, and customer support will remain unchanged. Still, this situation highlights how heavily the electronics market currently depends on the global component shortage fueled by AI infrastructure development.

The AYANEO Next 2 was conceived as one of the most powerful portable PCs. It was slated to feature AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 or 395 processors, up to 128GB of RAM, up to 2TB of storage, a 9.06-inch OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, and even a 116.1Wh battery—larger than many laptops. However, this high performance comes with trade-offs: the device weighs about 1.4kg, making it one of the heaviest in its class.
