Rumors from China suggest Apple isn't ready to abandon the Dynamic Island in its future smartphones just yet. The company has long aimed for a completely notch-free display, but technical hurdles with placing Face ID sensors under the screen continue to slow progress.
Previous reports indicated Apple is developing hidden sensor technology that would leave only a small cutout for the front camera, moving iPhones closer to a truly bezel-less design. However, a new leak claims the company hasn't achieved the necessary quality and reliability for under-display Face ID. This could mean the Dynamic Island will persist even in future models like the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple likely isn't giving up on design improvements, though. The Dynamic Island is expected to become smaller and less obtrusive in daily use, maintaining functionality while enhancing the screen's visual appeal.
Still, a fully seamless display remains a distant goal. Even if work continues in this direction, these rumors should be taken with caution, as Apple typically keeps such developments under tight wraps, and actual changes may differ from expectations.
