Google has begun expanding its Android 17 testing program beyond its own devices. With the release of Beta 2, the new system version is now available for the first time not only on Pixel smartphones but also on third-party models—specifically the OnePlus 15 and OPPO Find X9 Pro. This gives developers and enthusiasts the chance to try Android 17 on a wider range of devices before the stable version launches. However, manufacturers immediately warn that this is an early test build not intended for daily use, and it could seriously affect a smartphone's stability.
Known issues include data loss during installation, screen flickering, system crashes, and unstable performance with third-party apps. Users might also encounter non-functional features like Google Cast, interface freezes, and even the risk of completely bricking the device if installed incorrectly. OPPO additionally reports problems with its proprietary interaction features and touch controls.
There are also compatibility limitations: carrier-locked versions of smartphones, such as those from T-Mobile and Verizon, do not support participation in the beta program. Full stable firmware based on Android 17—OxygenOS 17 and ColorOS 17—is expected to arrive only after several months.
