Honor appears poised for a significant breakthrough in the battery life of its flagship smartphones. According to insider reports, the company is testing a 9,000 mAh battery for the upcoming Magic 9 series, which could set a record for the premium segment.
Until now, such large batteries have been more common in mid-range devices, while flagships have typically opted for more compact solutions to maintain slim profiles and premium materials. However, Honor seems to be exploring ways to combine high capacity with flagship design, without making the smartphone overly heavy or bulky.
Alongside battery size, charging speed plays a crucial role. The difference between 66W and, for example, 100W charging could significantly impact the user experience, especially with such a high capacity. These parameters are currently under testing and will be key to determining the success of the final product.
It is also reported that not all versions of the Magic 9 may feature the 9,000 mAh battery. Manufacturers often use a strategy known as "feature segmentation," reserving the most advanced specs for Pro or Ultimate models. Therefore, the base model might come with a lower capacity.
Beyond the battery, Honor is focusing on other aspects, such as improving speaker quality and the vibration motor. These details are increasingly becoming important parts of the flagship experience, contributing to the overall sense of premium quality in the device.
