Xiaomi to launch new foldable phone, may beat Galaxy Z Fold8

According to new leaks, Xiaomi is preparing to return to the book-style foldable smartphone segment. After a pause in 2025, the company appears to have resumed development, and the new device could launch even earlier than the anticipated competitor—the Galaxy Z Fold8.

Xiaomi previously launched the Mix Fold 4 in 2024 but then temporarily halted the lineup to focus on the clamshell-style Mix Flip 2. Now the situation is changing: insider Smart Pikachu reports the company is already working on a new foldable that will serve as the logical successor to the previous model.

The new device is expected to compete with top-tier offerings from other brands, including the OPPO Find N6 and Honor Magic V6. However, the final name remains undecided—it could debut as the Mix Fold 5 or under a new moniker like Xiaomi 17 Fold.

Components are receiving particular attention: Xiaomi is rumored to be actively using its own developments and local parts. This applies to both the hinge mechanism and camera optics, which could improve quality control and reduce reliance on third-party suppliers.

Preliminary information suggests the device could be unveiled as early as July. If confirmed, Xiaomi would have the chance to present its next-generation foldable flagship first and get ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8.
