Samsung Car-to-Home feature for smart home control from your car

Samsung has unveiled a new Car-to-Home feature that lets drivers control smart home devices directly from their car. Developed in partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, it works with Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

The service integrates with the SmartThings platform, allowing drivers to manage lighting, air conditioners, air purifiers, and even robot vacuums without leaving the car. To set it up, users simply link their SmartThings account with the Bluelink or Kia Connect car services via a QR code in the vehicle's interface.

This move builds on the earlier Home-to-Car service, which enabled smartphone control of the car. Now, the ecosystem works both ways, creating a seamless digital environment that connects home and vehicle.

Key capabilities include automated scenarios. For instance, as the car approaches home, the system can turn on lights and air conditioning, while departure triggers an "away mode" to shut off unnecessary devices. It all operates based on the car's geolocation.

The feature is available in vehicles with the ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) platform. Hyundai is already planning to switch to Android Automotive in new models, which could enhance integration and make the car-home interaction even more flexible in the future.
