Apple is reportedly considering the release of an iMac with an OLED display, which could represent one of the most significant updates to the lineup in recent years. Industry sources indicate the company has already approached key display suppliers to request the development of suitable panels.
The plan involves a 24-inch OLED display with a brightness of around 600 nits and a pixel density of approximately 218 ppi. This is higher than the current iMac's LCD screen, which offers 500 nits at the same density. For buyers, this detail matters because it highlights Apple's focus not just on OLED's superior contrast and color reproduction, but also on boosting brightness for everyday use.
Samsung Display is expected to play a key role among suppliers. The company plans to prepare initial samples based on QD-OLED technology in the second half of 2026. These panels should represent an advancement over Samsung's current offerings, increasing pixel density from 160 to about 220 ppi. LG Display is also involved in the project, developing its own next-generation OLED panels with improved brightness and alternative production technologies.
However, consumers shouldn't expect this iMac anytime soon. Available information suggests a launch may not occur until 2029–2030. Until then, Apple will continue updating the current lineup, with the next step being a transition to the M5 processor.
