iOS 26.5 beta features and Siri update expectations

Apple has released the beta version of iOS 26.5, but it doesn't include the anticipated improvements for the Siri voice assistant. At this point, it's unclear what new features this update will bring, though significant changes for Siri likely won't arrive until iOS 27. The previous update, version 26.4, brought a series of enhancements to various operating systems and built-in Apple apps, but it didn't deliver the expected innovations for Siri: a new base model, an updated on-screen interface, or the integration of personal data and user actions across different applications.

Based on recent rumors, it's unlikely these features will appear before the major OS update scheduled for fall, when Apple plans to introduce more extensive changes as part of Apple Intelligence. Users had hoped to see at least some of these functions in iOS 26.5, but the beta version contains no Siri-related changes. Full improvements to the voice assistant will probably only be unveiled at the WWDC conference in June.

Nevertheless, iOS 26.5 does offer new capabilities for users and developers. These include new subscription options through Apple's in-app purchase system, such as monthly plans with a 12-month commitment. Apple Maps has also gained a "Suggested Places" feature, which will eventually support paid placements. Currently, this function is only available to some users of the 26.5 beta.

For those interested in testing iOS 26 betas, you can register on the Apple Beta page, connect your device, and then select the public beta in the "Software Update" section. After registering, it may take some time before the beta version becomes available for download on your device.

Developers can install the beta via the Apple Developer app. This simply requires registering as a developer—even a free account will work—logging in with your Apple ID through the app, and downloading the iOS 26.5 beta. This method allows for earlier testing of updates and exploration of new system features before they reach regular users.
