Sleepal has introduced an innovative bedside lamp that not only adjusts lighting based on sleep patterns but also tracks sleep using millimeter-wave sensors. Unlike smartwatches or rings, Sleepal allows users to monitor sleep quality without needing to wear any devices on the body. The lamp features a modern cylindrical design and can function as a regular light fixture.
At the base of the device is a control for turning the lamp on and adjusting brightness. The top section houses several sensors: a microphone for analyzing snoring, a thermometer and humidity sensor to assess environmental conditions, and a millimeter-wave radar that detects body movements and breathing rate by monitoring chest motion.
In the morning, the smartphone app provides users with detailed sleep statistics, including sleep stages, heart rate, breathing rate, and environmental metrics. The app offers personalized advice, such as recommendations on sleep posture. For more precise analysis, data can be synchronized with other devices, like smartwatches. The lamp must be placed within two meters of the sleeper, and if multiple people share the bed, the system only records data from the person closest to the sensor.
Sleepal is planned to be sold through Kickstarter starting at $269, with a retail price set at $449. Exact dates for the campaign launch and shipments have not been announced yet, but the project has already garnered attention due to its unique combination of a light source and high-precision sleep analytics.
