German company Aqua Computer has unveiled AMPINEL, an add-on safety system for modern graphics cards with the 12V-2x6 power connector. It doesn’t just monitor load and temperature; it also actively balances current across lines to prevent overheating and potential damage to cables and connectors.
At today’s power levels—up to 600 W—the load can skew unevenly, leaving individual contacts to run hot. AMPINEL addresses that directly: as soon as current on any line exceeds 7.5 A, it steps in and redistributes the load. A built-in controller tracks temperature, voltage, and power in real time and, if things turn critical, triggers an emergency shutdown to protect the system.
For ease of use, there’s a built-in display, LED indicators, and integration with Aqua Computer’s aquasuite software. There you can monitor more than 40 parameters, set up alerts, receive reports on your smartphone, or even have applications close automatically when the graphics card is overloaded.
Sales of AMPINEL are set to begin in November at 79.90 euros. The device will be offered in a standard version and, potentially, in a white casing. For gamers and PC enthusiasts, it reads like a sensible insurance policy against overheating and graphics card failure.
