Apple releases security update to protect older devices from DarkSword attacks

Apple has swiftly released an additional security update for older iPhones and iPads in response to a new wave of attacks using the DarkSword tool. This exploit enables attackers to gain full control of a device simply by opening an infected webpage, with no further action needed.

According to the Central News Service, DarkSword was initially used in a limited capacity, but after part of its code leaked into the open, the threat has become widespread. Now, even less experienced attackers can use it to steal data, including messages, browser history, geolocation, and access to cryptocurrency wallets.

The highest risk affects users of outdated iOS and iPadOS versions that have not been updated. Apple has issued "backport" patches—security updates for older systems—to protect these devices alongside newer ones where vulnerabilities have already been addressed.

Experts warn that the attack occurs without the user's knowledge, making it particularly dangerous. The scale of the threat has gone global since the tool appeared online, potentially exposing millions of devices.

Apple strongly recommends installing the latest available security update and, if possible, upgrading to current iOS versions. This helps minimize the impact of DarkSword's spread and close the vulnerability across all supported levels.
