Sony Xperia 1 VIII leaks show new design and camera updates

The first leaks revealing the possible design of the Sony Xperia 1 VIII have appeared online. Based on the images, the company is preparing for its most noticeable changes in recent years. While previous generations maintained a nearly identical look, the new model may abandon the familiar concept.

The main innovation is a square camera block, replacing the signature vertical strip. It houses three sensors and a flash, with the module itself appearing more compact. However, user reactions have been mixed. Some in the audience believe Sony is losing its recognizability by adopting solutions that have already become standard among competitors.

An equally important change concerns the front panel. The Xperia 1 VIII may get a display with a cutout for the front camera, doing away with the wide bezels at the top and bottom. This would allow for smaller overall dimensions and increased screen real estate, but it could lead to the disappearance of the front-facing stereo speakers—one of the lineup's key features.

That said, the basic elements of Sony's philosophy remain. The presence of the signature Zeiss T* optics, a dedicated shutter button, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack are expected. Rumors suggest the smartphone will feature a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and an advanced camera with a 200-megapixel telephoto lens, which could make it one of the brand's most powerful camera phones. The official presentation is preliminarily scheduled for June.
