Grell OAE2 headphones with Front-sided Sound Field Modulation

Grell has launched its unusual open-type OAE2 headphones on the global market. Instead of focusing on conventional left-right stereo, the company is betting on a more natural musical experience. The development is led by Axel Grell, a former Sennheiser engineer known for his high-end audio solutions.

The main feature of the model is its 40mm tilted drivers. Unlike classic headphones that deliver sound directly into the ear, Grell uses Front-sided Sound Field Modulation technology. This simulates sound coming from the front, as at a live concert, interacting with the ear's shape to create a more expansive soundstage.

Grell claims this is an effect often missing from traditional headphones, even expensive ones. The new approach gives users a sense of presence rather than just stereo sound. The headphones also employ bio-cellulose diaphragms with a wide frequency range from 12 Hz to 34 kHz and low distortion.

Made in Germany, the model weighs about 378 grams and comes with cables featuring 3.5mm and 4.4mm connectors. Priced at $499, the Grell OAE2 targets audiophiles seeking more natural sound without switching to full speaker systems.
