The UK government is actively courting Anthropic to expand its operations in London. While Anthropic and US authorities are embroiled in a major dispute, the British side is preparing measures to strengthen the company's presence on English soil. According to the Financial Times, this involves expanding the London office and potentially pursuing a dual listing of the company's shares.
This initiative follows a recent conflict between Anthropic and the US Department of Defense. After the company refused to implement certain AI access restriction measures, the Pentagon canceled a contract and deemed Anthropic a potential supply chain risk. In the US, the company's registration is temporarily blocked by a court injunction, but the standoff between the parties continues.
FT sources indicate that London has intensified its efforts to attract the company in recent weeks. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is expected to visit the UK in May to discuss expansion plans and new partnership projects.
However, the company will face competition from OpenAI on the British market, which announced its own London expansion in February. Despite this, London views Anthropic's expansion as a strategic move to bolster the country's position in the artificial intelligence sector.
