New leaks about the upcoming OnePlus 16 flagship have surfaced, suggesting the company is serious about upgrading the camera after criticism of the previous generation. The main focus appears to be on the telephoto lens, with the smartphone expected to feature a periscope module boasting a 200-megapixel resolution.
According to insider Smart Pikachu, this camera could be based on the Samsung HP5 sensor, which has already been used in Realme devices. Such a sensor would significantly enhance zoom quality and photo detail, especially for long-distance shots. Complementing this, the OnePlus 16 is likely to get two additional 50-megapixel sensors for the main and ultra-wide cameras, forming a balanced triple-camera setup.
Performance won't be left behind either. Rumors point to the phone being equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process. Paired with new LPDDR6 memory, this should deliver faster speeds, particularly for AI tasks and demanding games.
The display also promises to be a strong point, with an expected resolution around 1.5K and a high refresh rate that could reach 200 Hz. Other possible features include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and the OxygenOS 17 interface based on Android 17.
Preliminary data suggests the starting price for the OnePlus 16 might be around 5,000 yuan, equivalent to roughly 725 dollars. The announcement is expected in October in China, followed by a global release.
