References to an unusual foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, have once again been found within the One UI 9 firmware. This device, previously mentioned in leaks, now has its existence seemingly confirmed by images and system files discovered inside the software shell.
The uncovered materials suggest the new model will feature a significantly altered form factor. Unlike the familiar Fold series designs, the Wide version is set to have a noticeably wider display. The code also contains a reference to an external screen mirroring function, which could become one of the device's key features.
Further details are hinted at by the codename "H8," associated with the Wide Fold project. Preliminary information indicates the internal screen will have a 4:3 aspect ratio, closer to a tablet format. For comparison, the standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a more "square" ratio of about 1.11:1, while this new model appears to prioritize content viewing comfort.
Expected specifications have also surfaced. When folded, the device is said to measure approximately 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8 mm, thinning to just 4.9 mm when unfolded. It will reportedly feature a 5.4-inch external display and a 7.6-inch internal screen. The smartphone is expected to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 series chip, up to 16 GB of RAM, and storage of up to 1 TB.
The new model is anticipated to pack a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. Importantly, the Wide version is not expected to replace the base model but will instead form a separate branch within Samsung's foldable device lineup.
