Gadhouse has unveiled the Miko portable cassette recorder, a retro-styled device aimed at analog audio enthusiasts. The new product evokes the era of classic 80s-90s players, drawing inspiration from iconic devices like the Sony Walkman while blending vintage design with modern connectivity.
The device features mechanical control buttons that emphasize its analog nature. Users can play cassettes with audio output either to wired headphones via a 3.5mm jack or to wireless models over Bluetooth. When connected via cable, it delivers up to 350mV of output power at 32 ohms impedance, with a signal-to-noise ratio of about 50 dB.
Beyond playback, the Miko allows audio recording onto standard Type I cassettes. A dedicated record button handles this, with sound sources including either the built-in microphone or an external device via the audio input. However, the recorder does not support more advanced tape types like Type II, III, or IV.
Power options are flexible: the device can run on two AA batteries or an external source via USB-C. Weighing just 192 grams, the player has a plastic body with aluminum accents, making it light and convenient for everyday use.
Gadhouse has already started selling the Miko for $99. It comes in two colors—smoky and mint—and is expected to appear on Amazon soon alongside other retro accessories from the brand.
