Google's Tap to Share: quick data transfer for Android

Google is developing a new feature for Android called Tap to Share, which will allow users to quickly transfer data between smartphones with a simple tap of devices. Based on leaks from recent Google services versions, the company is reviving an idea previously implemented in Android Beam, but in a more modern and convenient form.

The new feature will enable instant sharing of contacts, photos, videos, links, and even location data. To transfer information, users will need to unlock their smartphone and bring it close to another device. A visual effect will then appear to confirm the connection, and data transfer will begin. The interface already includes a tutorial explaining how it works. If a connection isn't established, the system will suggest trying to position devices back-to-back, as NFC module placement varies between manufacturers.

According to preliminary information, the feature will be integrated into Android's standard Share menu and should function similarly to Apple's NameDrop solution. Samsung smartphone users will likely get enhanced capabilities, including quick contact card sharing.

Tap to Share is currently in testing, with no exact launch timeline available. However, such a feature could significantly simplify data sharing between Android devices, making it fast and intuitive.
