The popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything conducted a series of durability tests on the Nothing Phone 4a Pro. Overall, the device performed well, surviving scratches, heat, and a bend test. However, the review uncovered one potential issue.
The most surprising finding involved the water and dust resistance. Channel host Zack Nelson discovered that the microphone hole next to the SIM tray could be accidentally damaged by the SIM ejector tool. Beneath it lies a protective membrane that could be punctured, potentially compromising the device's seal.
That said, there is an additional internal layer of protection, so the phone still maintains some level of water resistance. Nevertheless, compared to other smartphones, this design appears less robust, as similar components are typically better shielded.
The phone passed the remaining tests with confidence. The screen began scratching at level 6 on the Mohs scale, with deeper marks appearing at level 7, which is standard for modern devices. When exposed to heat, the display sustained a flame mark that partially faded but didn't fully disappear.
The Nothing Phone 4a Pro performed particularly well in the bend test—the body remained intact without serious deformation. Ultimately, the device was deemed one of the brand's most durable smartphones, though the identified microphone hole flaw will likely need refinement in future models.
