Rumors suggest Sony is developing not only a stationary PlayStation 6 but also a full-fledged portable PS6 Portable console, which may launch alongside the main system. A new leak reveals a key feature of the device: expanded backward compatibility.

Reports indicate the PS6 Portable will pack powerful hardware with graphics based on the RDNA 5 architecture and a six-core Zen 6 processor. Preliminary data suggests its performance could surpass the Xbox Series S, positioning the future portable console as one of the most powerful in its class.

The major news is the confirmation of support for past-generation games. According to the leak, the device will be able to natively run titles not just for the PS6 but also for the PS5 and PS4. This significantly expands the available game library and makes the console more appealing to users who already own a collection of digital titles.

However, there's an important limitation: the PS6 Portable likely won't include a physical media drive. This means only digital game versions will be playable, so owners of discs would need to repurchase them digitally unless Sony offers an alternative solution.

The PlayStation 6 and its portable version are expected to launch in fall 2027. If the information is confirmed, Sony would be returning to the full-fledged portable console market after a long hiatus, offering users a powerful device with a broad game library.
