Google Gemini AI assistant now available for macOS with desktop integration

Google is expanding the reach of its Gemini AI assistant with a new native application for macOS. Following the Windows release, the company has quickly introduced a similar product for Apple computers, focusing on integrating artificial intelligence into users' daily workflows.

The new app offers a full desktop experience controlled by keyboard shortcuts. By default, pressing Option + Space opens a compact chat window, while Option + Shift + Space launches the full Gemini interface. Users can customize these shortcuts in the app's settings.

A key feature is screen content integration. Gemini can analyze images, documents, code, and other files, answering questions about their content. It also processes entire web pages, not just what's visible on screen.

The application supports image and video generation using Nano Banana and Veo tools. It's available for devices running macOS 15 or newer, provided the service is officially accessible in the user's region.

Google emphasizes this is just the beginning of developing a comprehensive personal AI assistant for computers. In the coming months, the company plans to expand Gemini's functionality, strengthening its role as a versatile tool for both work and creative tasks.
