Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may get UFS 5.0 memory upgrade

Samsung is reportedly planning a significant upgrade for its future flagship smartphones. According to insider information, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could become the first smartphone on the market to feature the new UFS 5.0 memory standard, promising a noticeable leap in performance.

The leaked details suggest the UFS 5.0 interface could reach speeds of up to 10.8 GB/s, nearly doubling the capabilities of current solutions. This boost would significantly accelerate app launches, file transfers, and resource-intensive tasks, including data processing for artificial intelligence.

For context, the current Galaxy S26 lineup uses UFS 4.1 memory. Despite optimizations like WriteBooster and improved storage management, the new standard offers a more radical increase in bandwidth. This matters because it addresses growing computational demands.

Interestingly, the shift to UFS 5.0 was previously expected no earlier than 2027. However, the development of AI features in smartphones may have accelerated these plans, especially since the standard has already been finalized by JEDEC and memory manufacturers have begun preparing for its implementation.

If confirmed, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could set a new benchmark for the mobile industry, where storage speed becomes a key factor alongside the processor and camera.
