MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro: new flagship chip details

MediaTek is preparing to launch its new flagship processor, the Dimensity 9600 Pro, with initial test results already appearing online. According to leaks, the chip shows a moderate but noticeable performance improvement over the previous generation.

Insiders report that in Geekbench 6 testing, the new chip could score around 4,200-4,300 points in single-core mode and up to 12,500 points in multi-core mode. These figures are higher than the Dimensity 9500, which previously scored approximately 4,000 and 11,000 points respectively. However, it's important to note that these are preliminary results from engineering samples.

The performance boost is linked to a new processor architecture. The chip will feature a 2+3+3 configuration with two high-performance cores running at around 5 GHz, along with additional Gelas-series cores. This approach relies on "big" cores to increase computational power.

The graphics subsystem will also be updated, with the expected use of Arm's next-generation Magni GPU. Meanwhile, the processor will be manufactured using TSMC's N2P process, which should balance performance and energy efficiency despite the high frequencies.

The first smartphones to feature the Dimensity 9600 Pro are expected to be devices in the Vivo X500 and OPPO Find X10 lineups. Full specifications and final performance metrics will be revealed closer to the official announcement.
