After several years of relative quiet, the Ghost Recon series may be getting a proper new installment. According to insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft plans to return to the franchise after releasing the remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which is expected to arrive first.
The last major release in the series was Ghost Recon Breakpoint in 2019. The game received mixed reviews and fell short of sales expectations, despite later attempts to improve it with an immersive mode and AI teammates. These changes failed to significantly shift audience perception.
Ubisoft later tried to reignite interest in the franchise with the experimental battle royale project Ghost Recon Frontline, but the game faced sharp criticism from the community even at the announcement stage. As a result, the company halted development and canceled the project in 2022.
The latest information suggests a new Ghost Recon title remains in the plans and could launch in 2026. Initially, the release was expected sooner, but timelines were revised. Now, based on leaks, the project appears to be moving closer to reality, potentially signaling Ubisoft's attempt to regain fan trust and reboot the series at a new level.
