Xiaomi has announced the launch of the Android 17 Developer Preview program, giving developers early access to the latest version of the operating system. The first devices eligible to receive the update are the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15T Pro, with plans to expand support to more models later.
The program is primarily aimed at developers who need to test their applications in the new environment before the official release. For Xiaomi, this also marks a significant step, showcasing its readiness for the next generation of Android and its own interface update.
Interestingly, the company has changed its numbering approach for the HyperOS system. Instead of the expected HyperOS 4, the new firmware will be labeled HyperOS 3.3, running on Android 17. Version 3.2 appears to be skipped, raising questions about the new naming strategy.
The initial builds provide a glimpse of future design and interface changes in HyperOS, though the final innovations will only become clear with subsequent updates. For now, developers can download the test firmwares and begin adapting their apps for the new system.
