General Motors has announced a large-scale deployment of the Google Gemini AI assistant in vehicles from its Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC brands. The update will apply to 2022 and newer models built on Android Automotive, covering about four million cars in the United States alone.
With Gemini, in-car interaction becomes more natural: drivers can talk to the system using everyday language instead of memorizing specific commands. The assistant can answer questions, help find information, maintain a conversation, and even send messages with translation into different languages—all without distracting the driver from the road.
Despite the announcement, the update won’t be available immediately. Its rollout will begin in the coming months. To use the feature, owners need an active OnStar subscription, a Google Play account, and English (US) set as the primary language for voice control.
Looking ahead, General Motors plans to expand Gemini support to other markets and add new languages. The launch scale already makes this one of the largest AI-assistant rollouts in the automotive industry.
