Sony is gearing up to launch a new flagship headset called the Sony 1000X The ColleXion. Just before its official launch on May 19, insiders have leaked almost all key specifications and global pricing. The new device is positioned as a premium solution that goes well beyond previous models in the lineup.
The headset comes with a built-in V3 processor that, together with DSEE Ultimate technology, improves and upscales audio quality. Sony is emphasizing studio-grade sound, with support for 360 Reality Audio and a volume-level tracking feature that aims for a more natural listening experience. A 360 Upmix function is also onboard, converting standard stereo into surround sound for music, movies, and games.
Active noise cancellation has also seen major improvements. An Adaptive NC Optimizer works with 12 microphones that adapt in real time to the surroundings, cutting down external noise — including wind. For calls, there is a separate six-microphone setup with AI processing that effectively isolates the user's voice.
Battery life reaches up to 24 hours with noise cancellation enabled, and a 5-minute quick charge provides up to 1.5 hours of playback. Additional features include multipoint connection, adaptive sound control, transparency mode, and fine-tuning through the Sony Sound Connect app.
Design is also a focus. The headphones will have a body finished with metal and synthetic leather, along with a premium magnetic carrying case. However, the design is rumored to be non-folding, and the weight increases to around 312 grams.
As for pricing, the headset is already set at €629 in Europe. In other markets, expected prices are about $649 in the US, £549 in the UK, and CAD $849. That is notably higher than the previous Sony WH-1000XM6, underscoring Sony's shift into an even more premium tier.
