Google has rolled out a long-awaited Gemini feature: the AI can now create complete files right inside the chat. Users just describe what they need, select the format, and download the result—no copying, pasting, or manual formatting required. The update went live on April 29 and is available to all Gemini users globally, including those with free accounts.

This changes the typical AI workflow quite a bit. Before, you'd copy responses into Word, manually assemble tables in Excel, and rebuild document layouts after pasting. Now Gemini delivers the final file instantly. For instance, a budget proposal can arrive as a ready-to-use spreadsheet, a lecture summary as a polished PDF, and a project plan as a Word document.

The inclusion of LaTeX is particularly noteworthy. Widely used in scientific papers, engineering reports, and academic publishing, LaTeX support means Gemini can generate documents complete with formulas, diagrams, and structured markup. This makes it a more powerful tool for students, researchers, and technical professionals. It’s also a strong competitive play for Google against other AI platforms.

The update isn’t perfect yet, though. Notably, PowerPoint is absent from the format list, even though Word and Excel are already supported—and using Google Slides as a workaround isn't as seamless. Early mobile users also report bugs and delays in accessing the feature. Still, the move is significant: Gemini shortens the journey from idea to polished document and nudges AI closer to being a full-fledged productivity tool.
