xAI is preparing to introduce Grok Voice support for Apple CarPlay. The latest Grok app for iPhone already includes a placeholder for a standalone CarPlay app, though the voice mode doesn't work in the car yet. Trying to open it shows a message that Grok Voice mode is coming to CarPlay soon.
The presence of this placeholder essentially confirms xAI’s ambition to take Grok beyond smartphones and Tesla. Grok is already built into Tesla vehicles, but CarPlay integration would make its voice features accessible in any car with Apple's platform.
Grok will be the third AI assistant to arrive in CarPlay, following ChatGPT and Perplexity. This shift shows how CarPlay is evolving beyond navigation, music, and calls into a space for voice-driven AI interaction.
Google hasn’t yet shown any sign of preparing Gemini for CarPlay, though Gemini models are expected to power the new Siri in iOS 27. Separately, Apple is rumored to be working on a dedicated Siri app that will almost certainly work via CarPlay as well.
There’s no official word on when Grok Voice will actually become available in CarPlay. It’s also uncertain whether the recently launched XChat will gain CarPlay support. But the fact that Grok is being readied for the platform highlights a growing trend: the battle of AI assistants is moving onto car dashboards.
