ASUS has unveiled the one-of-a-kind ROG Astral 5kg Gold Edition graphics card, crafted from five kilograms of pure gold. It now stands as a record-setter for both price and heft in the history of consumer GPUs.
The build took several months and more than ten failed casting attempts before the team locked in the result. Every exterior element—shroud, frame, and backplate—was cast by hand, then polished and detailed with engravings of cloud motifs and ROG emblems filled with enamel. The finished card weighs 7.56 kg, of which roughly 5 kg is gold.
The project follows on from the earlier, ultra-limited RTX 5090 Dhahab Edition, which used just 6.5 grams of gold. This time, the ROG Astral Gold Edition is valued at nearly half a million dollars and has already drawn strong interest from collectors—an outcome that, given the materials and craftsmanship, hardly surprises.
While the plan was to send the card to auction, insiders say a private collector purchased it directly. Part of the proceeds will go to the Bilibili Charity foundation to support children’s education in rural China.
The card will never reach retail shelves, yet it neatly illustrates how gaming hardware can blur the line between technology, art, and jewelry-making, turning a piece of silicon and metal into a luxury statement.
