The United States Mint has started selling a new commemorative coin with a face value of $1 featuring Steve Jobs. The coin is part of the American Innovation Coin program, which honors outstanding American innovators and technological achievements.
The coin shows a young Steve Jobs in a turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers against a backdrop of Northern California. The design description states that Jobs is depicted in a moment of reflection, with the composition highlighting the entrepreneur's connection to nature and his drive to turn complex technology into simple, intuitive products.
According to the Steve Jobs Archive, which supported the design creation along with California Governor Gavin Newsom, the Apple founder had a deep attachment to California's natural beauty. Newsom said that Jobs' innovative and entrepreneurial spirit embodied the best of California and created the future we all know today. He added that Jobs' perseverance and fearless pursuit of the California dream made many American dreams possible, encouraging everyone to try to stand in his shoes in search of their own dreams.
The collectible coins are available for purchase on the US Mint's website. A set of 25 coins costs $61, while a set of 100 coins is priced at $154.50.
