Google has refreshed its Gemini voice assistant for smart home devices, including the Nest Hub. The update now factors in the user's age when handling age-restricted queries.
Before the update, Gemini would refuse to answer questions about alcohol, for instance. Now, if it determines the request comes from an adult, it can give a relevant response. Google says adult device owners now have broader access to everyday topics, including age-restricted drinks.
If the assistant still blocks such requests, users should check the parental control and filter settings in the Google Home app. The system also lets users rate Gemini's answers.
Gemini also gained improved memory capabilities. For example, if a user once told the assistant a nanny's name, it can later spot her on security camera footage and respond to a question about her arrival.
This update highlights how Google is actively evolving Gemini for the smart home, making it more personalized and better suited to different user groups.
