Canon has unveiled the EOS R6 V, its first full-frame camera aimed at vloggers and content creators. Built on the EOS R6 III platform, it's tailored primarily for video work. The camera packs a 32.5-megapixel sensor, a vari-angle screen, a zoom lever, active cooling, and professional recording formats. That said, there's no electronic viewfinder—a potential downside for bright-light shooting.
Video takes center stage here. The EOS R6 V can record up to 7K at 60 fps in 12-bit RAW with 2K proxies. It also supports 7K 30p open gate for creators producing content for both horizontal and vertical platforms. Slow-motion capabilities include 4K up to 120 fps and 2K DCI up to 180 fps. For color grading, Canon Log 2 and Log 3 are available in 10-bit, with a claimed dynamic range of up to 15+ stops in Log 2. HLG and PQ HDR are also on board.
A major upgrade over Canon’s previous heat-prone models is the active cooling system. At room temperature, the company says the camera can shoot 7K RAW at 60 fps for over 120 minutes without overheating. At around 30°C with the fan set to High, recording time drops to 52 minutes—still enough to make it viable for extended shoots.
The EOS R6 V features in-body image stabilization that, with compatible lenses, matches the R6 III's performance and delivers up to 8.5 stops of compensation. Digital stabilization is also available for smoother walking shots. Monitoring tools include waveform, zebra, false color, and View Assist when using C-Log 2 and C-Log 3.
The autofocus system can automatically detect people, animals, and vehicles. Users can register a specific person in advance so the camera prioritizes them in a group. A new AF for close-up demos function quickly pulls focus to an object brought near the lens, ideal for product reviews and demonstrations.
The camera features dual card slots (SD UHS-II and CFexpress B), full-size HDMI, USB-C, headphone and microphone jacks, and an LP-E6P battery. The EOS R6 V is available for preorder at $2,499 for the body only, or $3,699 in a kit with the new RF20-50mm F4 L IS USM PZ lens. Canon will also offer the Creator Accessory Kit II, which includes a microphone, tripod grip, and wireless remote, for $250.
