Sony is testing a new PS5 feature that echoes SteamDB functionality. The beta system software for PlayStation 5 now includes a widget in the Welcome Hub that displays data on the platform's most popular games. It reveals weekly player counts and highlights titles surging in popularity within the user's region.

The widget has two modes: Top 10 and Trending Now. Top 10 lists the games with the most weekly players, while Trending Now highlights titles with surging interest. It's not a live concurrent player counter, but it provides a clear window into which games are actually retaining an audience on PlayStation.

This system comes with a key limitation: the data is region-locked. Users won't see a global overview, only what's popular in their own country. While that prevents assessing a worldwide PS5 game ranking, it can help discover titles that local players are actively engaged with.

The first list, shared by YouTuber Mystic, showed the US weekly leaders: Fortnite with 14.6 million players, GTA V with 5.13 million, Minecraft with 4.97 million, and Call of Duty with 4.95 million. They were followed by Apex Legends, Marvel Rivals, Battlefield 6, and ARC Raiders. Currently, the feature is limited to PS5 beta testers, so a widespread rollout may still be some time away.
