Acoustune has unveiled a compact Bluetooth transmitter in Japan called the ATX001, which plugs into a smartphone via USB-C and adds support for advanced audio codecs. The device targets Android and iPhone users whose phones lack native LDAC or aptX Lossless compatibility but who own wireless headphones that can handle these formats.
The ATX001's primary role is to boost sound quality during wireless listening. It supports aptX Lossless and LDAC, along with more common codecs like AAC, SBC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive. To use it, you need to install the company's ANIMA Studio app, which likely lets you manage connection settings and audio transmission modes.
Under the hood is a Qualcomm QCC5181 chipset designed for high-resolution music playback while keeping power consumption relatively low—under 300 mA at 5 V. The transmitter works with Bluetooth 5.4 and compatible headphones, making it a handy accessory for anyone wanting better sound without upgrading their phone.
aptX Lossless can deliver 16-bit/44.1 kHz audio at up to 1.2 Mbps, while LDAC handles streams of up to 990 kbps with up to 32-bit depth and 88.2 kHz sample rate. Both reduce compression artifacts and offer more detail than basic Bluetooth codecs, though final quality still depends on the headphones and source file.
Preorders for the Acoustune ATX001 in Japan begin on May 29, 2026, with a release date of June 5. The recommended price is 13,600 yen (around $89) including tax. For audiophiles, this could be an affordable way to upgrade wireless audio on a smartphone without switching to a dedicated player.
